Department Description

The technical team is our Client-facing department charged with business development and field execution
of projects. Day-to-day activities could include sales pitching and business development, preparing technical
and financial proposals to Clients, project technical reports, undertaking site visits, system installations,
aftersales services, Client engagement and sales negotiation, cost estimates and BOQs, preparation of bids,
drafting engineering designs and blueprints, project supervision, ToT training & technical backstopping

Job Purpose

We are looking for a seasoned, hardworking, smart, and achieving Technical Sales Engineer to help us
expand our Clientele through expert discovery and exploration of new, untapped business opportunities
and relationships. You will be expected to achieve high and sustained levels of new customer acquisition,
retention, and satisfaction, make presentations and product demos, work with Clients to design solutions
for their needs, and consult throughout the sales process. You will undertake a range of business
development and robust marketing initiatives, B2B, B2C, online marketing, and preparation of responses to
RFQs and tenders aimed at cultivating more business opportunities
To be successful, you should possess in-depth technical knowledge of our company’s products and services
and be able to relate this knowledge in a way that is understandable to non-technical customers. You
should be driven to achieve your sales goals and have excellent sales and customer service skills. You will
be expected to keep a close eye on Clients’ feedback to ensure that our products and services always
exceed expectations, and make appropriate suggestions for improvement in light of this feedback. Our
ideal candidate will be expected to dive right in and take lead and ownership of the entire sales cycle.
Ideally, this person will be very familiar with and already have established relationships/networks with
customers in the WATSAN sector

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide Clients with pre- and post-sales technical advice and support about products and services
  • Locate or propose potential business deals by contacting potential partners; discovering and exploring
    opportunities. This could include attending networking events i.e. trade exhibitions, marketing events,
    and seminars with intention of connecting with prospective Clients
  • Serve as a key point of contact for Clients, answer technical queries, provide technical advice and make
    product demonstrations about our products and services
  • Drive business growth through developing a network of contacts to attract new Clients, researching
    new market opportunities and overseeing growth projects, making sales projections, and forecasting
    revenue, in line with projected income
  • Coordinate technical sales activities i.e. delivery, installation, and troubleshooting of issues after a sale
  • Prepare tenders, proposals, and quotations, and negotiate tender and contract terms and conditions
  • Undertake technical presentations for customers, partners, and prospects
  • Undertake development of formal sales proposals
  • Generate leads/new Clients through cold calling prospective Clients, direct contact, word-of-mouth,
    appointments, and research organizations and individuals to find new opportunities
  • Set goals and develop plans for business and revenue growth. The job will entail setting periodic
    SMART sales targets and working towards achieving them
  • Manage both our existing sales pipeline and the development of new business opportunities
  • Take a lead role in developing new business proposals and presentations that create and nurture
    opportunities and partnerships
  • Coordinate the drafting and reviewing of contracts
  • Research and understand current and new technology trends and their implications on our key Clients
  • Create informative presentations; present and deliver information to potential Clients at the Client
    meetings, industry exhibitions, trade shows, and conferences

Attributes and Skills

Key Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Engineering fields of Water Resources Engineering, Civil Engineering, Sanitary
    Engineering, Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, or any other related field
  • Minimum of 2 years experience managing commercial sales, preferably as a Sales Engineer, with
    proven track record of success in meeting and exceeding sales goals and targets
  • Knowledge of data science and the ability to perform data analysis and analytics will be an added advantage

Working Hours and Conditions

The successful candidate will be expected to work full-time. The job is 80% field based and 20% could
involve working from an Office environment. Our regular working hours are 8:00 am-5:00 pm, Monday to
Friday. However, the job requires flexibility in responding to changing work priorities and tight deadlines,
as the position holder may occasionally have to work longer to meet project deadlines or work irregular
hours to meet sales goals and Client needs. S/he may be called upon for tasks on short notice, as well as
occasional evening and weekend work as may be required

Department Description

The Engineering Department is led by the Technical Director, who manages a team of civil, water, and electromechanical engineers by providing technical direction on business strategies that ensure the company consistently delivers superior technical solutions to clients.

Broadly, the goal of Hydro Concepts Uganda Limited Engineering team is to provide technical expertise in planning, designing and overseeing construction and maintenance of numerous water, sanitation and drainage infrastructure for a wide range of clients

Job Purpose

The Civil Engineer will be responsible for designing, planning and analysis of project performance; and reporting in line with the company’s strategic objectives.

The position holder will also be responsible for undertaking robust marketing and sales for our products and services to both existing and potential new clients.

S/he will complete tasks assigned by the supervisor such as assisting in conducting research, developing technical designs, blueprints, and specifications for engineering projects, and writing technical reports.

The ideal candidate should have a high technical aptitude and ability to come up with original ideas and creative solutions that can be translated into economic value for the company, thus positioning the company to be the leading provider of products and services in the Water and Sanitation arena

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Read blueprints and drawings, understand and design plans, outlining the key variables and what needs to be changed prior to the construction
  • Able to place bids and call for tenders ensuring that all rules, regulations and guidelines are fulfilled
  • Able to undertake robust marketing and sales for products and services to both existing and potential new clients
  • Carry out feasibility studies and assist in conducting research, developing technical designs, blueprints, and specifications for engineering projects, and writing sound technical reports
  • Develop detailed technical design layouts, keeping the requirements of the client in mind
  • Make budgets, program, and track investment projects and strive to make the ideal balance between the price, quality, and time obligations
  • Assess and bring to notice if any discrepancies in drawings, quantities and rates as well as make necessary changes if any
  • Keep an eye on surveying works (confirm the boundaries correctly) and setting out (plotting or marking of the plan on field)
  • Check on safety measures taken by people working on site as well as resolve technical issues arising, if any, during execution of work
  • Keeping record of drawings, technical reports and site diary
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by management

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Hydrology, Environmental Engineering or other related fields is essential from a recognized university
  • Skills and knowledge of engineering software e.g. AutoCAD, GIS, EPANET, ArcGIS
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
